Abstract

A model development of hypertension and diabeted control program Chanthaburi provinceAs a result a model development of hypertension and diabetes control at provincial level was set up in Chanthaburi Province. The first phase of this project was to estimate prevalence of hypertension and diabetes and other lifestyle risk factors such as cigarette smoking and obesity for the whole province. Multistage proportional to size cluster sampling was employed to draw a sample of 1637 subjects from the study areas. Blood sample were drawn to test for fasting plasmas glucose. Subjects were examined for height, body weight and blood pressures. Semi-structures interviews were administered to collect data as to demographic profiles, lifestyle risk factors and perception of hypertension and diabetes, 10.20 percent of subjects were found to be hypertensives and 3.8 percent diabetes 0.5 percent of subject have nonfatal stroke. Nearly 25 percent of subjects were obese. About 50 percent of male subject are current smoker, 45 percent consume alcohol, 40 percent of people in Chanthaburi never visit doctor.
