Abstract

The Comparative Study for Quality of Trauma Treatment Before and After the Revision of Trauma Audit, Khon Kaen HospitalsDuring 1994 – 1995, the preventable death rate of the Khon-Kaen Hospital dropped from 3.2% to 2.7%. The Trauma Audit Committee was not satisfied with this rate due to existing high rate and limitations of the trauma audit as impractical in some standard procedures. The hospital then improved the trauma audit by comparing quality of trauma treatment before and after the revision of trauma audit. The Committee for developing the standard operation procedures and the Working Group for monitoring the care given by the doctors were set up. The results showed the care quality was better confirmed by the significantly decreased preventable death rate to 2.1% in 1997 compared with 3.2% of 1994. The 1997 contributing factors to fatality significantly dropped relatively to that of the 1994-1995 fiscal year. The standard operation procedures were achieved more than 80% (23 out of 32 categories). In conclusion, the development of the standard operation procedures needs continuous revision of the trauma audit and the revision should be systematic and efficient in order to increase care quality for accidental cases.
