Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine how to control weight among personnel in Health Promotion Center, Region 10, Chiang Mai. It focused on participation between the health promotion clinic team and 20 volunteers 35-55 years of age, who had a body mass index of at least 27 kilograms/square meter, during the period May 2006- May 2007. The study involved variety activities, such as health education and community of practice concerning proper diet and physical activity, nutrition demonstration, physical activity practice, as well as encouraging and motivating the volunteers to take part in activities continuously. The results of this study showed that 18 of the volunteers (90%) were female; only 2 (10%) were male. Body weight was not increased in 15 persons (75%), waist circumference was not increased in 16 persons (80%) and knowledge about health was increased in 15 persons (75%) following the education activity. Follow-up six months after the end of the project revealed that weight was still controllable in 13 persons (65%), persistent behavioral nutrition in 16 persons (80%) and continuous physical activities in 18 persons (90%). This model study should be developed and applied to control weight among the general public for good health.
