Ignored Citation in the Medical Report Entitled "Occupational Malignant Mesothelioma in Thailand"

Abstract
It is not uncommon to encounter medical articles written by Thai authors that fail to cite the readily available, relevant and accomplished works of other Thai investigators. The reasons why they ignore the work of their countrymen may be manifold, but the lack of a local literature review may have an adverse impact on their findings. In a recent article entitled “Occupational Malignant Mesothelioma in Thailand,” published in the March-April 2009 issue of the Journal of Health Science, the researchers, perhaps unwittingly, overlooked a number of Thai publications on mesothelioma and asbestos in this country. While we accept the single reported patient of those investigators as a case of pleural mesothelioma of the malignant variety, reference to it as “occupational” in relation to asbestos exposure has yet to be demonstrated and is therefore unsound.
