Abstract
Healthcare Healing Environment Design research project consist of objective for: (1)
Surveying the problem of healthcare environment setting (2) To design an assessment tool for
Healthcare Healing Environment Design. Research focus on 12 of 30-120 beds community
hospitals countrywide with specific selection.
Research found that settings for healthcare healing environment in most of research
participant hospitals have problem on space management, way findings/ signage, knowledge
boards, visual objects, color tones, crowded waiting area, air quality in service area. Besides,
there are more problems outside buildings such as cars parking area, connecting corridor also
garden landscape those cannot support practical usage.
To design an assessment tool for healthcare healing environment, research team were
reviewing international literatures and related research papers combine with experiences from
working in Healthcare Accreditation Institute (Public Organization) and visiting countrywide
hospitals in order to get a preliminary self-assessment tool for participant hospitals. Core
principles of the assessment tool are based on the six factors that affect the human senses.
After trial implementation in participant hospitals, the assessment tool was developed to be
the final version for first year research program by dividing assessment parameters into 3 areas:
(1) buildings outdoor (2) common facilities and (3) indoor function; as (1) and (2) are common
area and (3) is for each units/ wards.
This Healthcare Healing Environment Assessment Tool Kit will be implementing in
participant hospitals as for evaluating the tool and develop to be a more complete tool in the
second year of the research program.
