Abstract
This research aims to study families in Thai society from the historic to the modern period and take a look at policies, measures, mechanisms, and methods to strengthen the foundation of families and presents possible means to improve the healthy life of vulnerable families in Thai society through public debates with related parties and experts and revision of relevant documents. The research shows that 1) The vulnerable families, or the target group, are unprepared for the collective lifestyle as a family and other factors unrelated to age as individuals, regardless of their age, could face difficulties in having a family, 2) The target group lacks comprehension on a concept of family and how to conform with such kind of relationships and do not realize own’s duties to bring the family together as a whole, 3) People in charge lacks supportive system, tools, or methods to help them set goals or adapt to work together; each section works separately toward their specific goals without communication or cooperation, 4) The importance of family is neglected causing the family to be excluded from any development plans or national policies, 5) Without coordination, the gap of interpretations on ambiguous policies leads to unorganized work and demotivates unity. This research summarizes and presents the following policy proposals; 1) Family crisis can be solved with logic and vision expansive enough to help recognize family crisis as a systematic crisis caused by multiple factors and dimensions with complexity. It is the reflection on the mainstream development which emphasizes materialization exchanged with family failures, social regression, and moral decline. It is the development that destroys the mind, family, and society as it drives people to go out into fierce competition for materials and money. Resources are spent on “country development” while they should be used to expand the prosperity of children and families., 2) To solve the family crisis, it is essential to see the importance of families as a foundation of future sustainability and security of the society and the country. The health of families fluctuates with each and every government policy, especially economic, academic, social, and labor policies. Therefore, we should recognize the healthy life of families and children as an ultimate goal of the nation.
