Abstract
The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the remodeling of
health behavior programme. Participants included 118 civil servants of Prayuen district,
Khon Kaen Province. The programme consisted of lectures and behavioral remodeling
activities lasting two days and one night. Data collection was performed before and six
months after programme implementation. Six areas of health behavior according to the
Ministry of Public Health policy were measured by conducting interviews. Measurement
of blood pressure, body mass index, and blood sugar level were also performed. It revealed
that, at six months after programme implementation, the participants consumed less sugar, took more fish and decreased the amount of food consumed at dinner time,
at significantly different levels than before they began participating in the programme
(p-value = 0.03, 0.02 and 0.01, respectively). They also spent more time in performing
routine physical exercises, taking care of the sanitary environment and recycling garbage
(p-value = 0.01, 0.03 and 0.01, respectively). Significant improvement in physical examination
results were shown in terms of blood pressure (p-value = 0.02) and pulse rate
(p-value = 0.03). However, no significant differences were found in the following variables:
taking raw meat, participating in a health club, controlling emotions, eradicating
disease carriers, treating waste water, practicing protective measures against diseases,
practicing harmful behaviors that would lead to ruin and changes in body mass index.
More studies are needed to understand these unhealthy behaviors and to find appropriate
resolution.
